Today's drive took about 10 hours overall, but it was a beautiful drive. We had views of the snow topped Rockies for a good portion of the drive, including from the rest area where we stopped for lunch. After lunch the drive got even more amazing as we drove up into the mountains in Bighorn National Park. The winding mountain road was really beautiful as we drove higher and higher and the view got progressively more stunning. As we ascended we came upon towering cliffs, snow covered slopes, and deer who were eating that snow at about 9,400 feet! We had gorgeous weather during this whole portion of the drive, which was a good thing, because that 10% grade on the way down would have been terrifying in the rain!
I mention rain only because we did start getting some darkening clouds as we approached Cody, WY. The little town of Cody was neat. It was founded by Buffalo Bill. We traveled through Cody and on to Yellowstone. It did start to rain as soon as we entered the park and it was getting late so after the hour and a half drive through the park to our campground at Grant Village we decided to go to a restaurant for dinner instead of dragging everything out to cook. Joe tried a bison burger and Nick had a bison hot dog. The rest of us weren't quite as adventurous. After dinner we managed to set up our site pretty quickly, had our campfire and went to bed. Tomorrow we start to explore Yellowstone!
